Daniel has over 20 years of experience in the Latin American debt capital markets, centered around project finance, M&A, and debt restructuring for a combined transaction value of US$ 7 Bn. Daniel manages the electric energy sector at HBI, having closed 19 project finance transactions since 2008. Some of these transactions include the first two project finance dealings for small hydroelectric plants in the country, the sale of a 600 MW hydroelectric plant, and raising US$ 136 MM of equity for various small hydroelectric plants.
Daniel currently serves as general manager of Century Energy Corp., the Helm Group investment vehicle in renewable assets, which has developed 10 greenfield hydroelectric projects (currently operating or in construction) in Colombia. In 2018, Daniel helped create Julia RD (corporation for which HBI is the biggest stakeholder), a pioneer in the business of energy that integrates the demand-side of the market as a source of energy backup.
Formerly, Daniel was Corporate Treasurer of AT&T Latin America where he was responsible for financing the build-out of the companys six country businesses, raising over US$ 1.1 Bn in vendor and shareholder financing. He was also a key member of the restructuring team responsible for handling the Chapter 11 process and the sale of the company to Telmex. Before that, Daniel was Director of Project and Structured Finance at Lucent Technologies, Latin America. At Lucent, he led or arranged vendor financings for more than US$ 4 Bn in telecommunication projects for Latin America and the US.
Daniel earned his B.S. in business administration from the University of Arizona and has a masters in international management from Thunderbird. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
